The game was revealed during the EA’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017. The developers have released A Way Out for the consoles including Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

During the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 press conference, the developers of the game released its launched date in early 2018.
A Way Out Trailer
During the press conference, the game’s first trailer footage was also released. The trailer demonstrates the game’s two characters Leo and Vincent, who are incarcerated in a prison for unknown reasons. Furthermore, it shows that Leo initially avoids Vincent’s escape plan; the two prisoners eventually bond for unprecedented reasons and assist each other to escape the prison. The trailer reveals that the game won’t end with the prison break, as we see both the characters exploring the outside world of the prison after they have broken out of the prison.
About the A Way Out
Fares, A Way Out’s director plus writer, mentioned at EA’s E3 Press conference that A Way Out can only be played in split – screen. Fares stated on the stage that, the game is story driven, cooperation based game that will feature the exploration, action and much more. He further stated that “I wanted to make another game that pushed the boundaries on how to tell stories without compromising on gameplay.” In a game, the player can select the control either of Leo or Vincent. Both characters have distinct stories and will play out simultaneously on – screen.
Although the game is being designed as split-screen multiplayer, it will not offer an independent screen multiplayer option when a player decides to play the game via online.
A Way Out is an ambitious move at the time where the gaming industry is traditionally waving away from this. Based on a third – person perspective, in the game players can interact with on playable characters along with the selectable dialogue options for players. Overall, both the players who are on the run from the authorities after the prison break need to cooperate and assist each other in order to progress and achieve the final feat of the game.
A Way Out Development
The game which is still in the development phase is developed by the Sweden developers, Hazelight Studios. The team is led by the film director Josef Fares who has worked with the team on the prior game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The developers kicked off the game’s production in the mid – 2014. Since the beginning the team aimed for the unique and different concept for the game. Eventually, the developers dropped out the traditional format featured in numerous mainstream games and instead they opted to create an entire game that should be co-played with another player.
The developer Fares mentioned that the game was his passion project for which he even canceled an upcoming feature film to entirely devote to working on the game.
The game is described as an emotional adventure, despite its heavily emphasized on multiplayer. To give a clear understanding of the story of the characters, the game will also play out the cut scenes. The developers have also given much heed to make the two characters realistic. As a result, the team has installed distinct personalities with different opinions and responses while making interactions with other characters within the game.
A Way Out and Electronic Arts
The game’s title will be the part of the Electronic Arts’ EA Originals program who is also the publisher of the game, dedicated to funding the small independent games. The partnership began when the Executive Vice President of the Electronic Arts, Patrick Soderlund approached the Fares for collaboration after being amazed by his prior work. Electronic Arts offered the developer $3.7 million for the overall development of the game and also give the team control over the game’s development.
EA executive Patrick Soderlund said in a statement, “They are a small and very talented group with a vision and passion for a game that is truly unique in the video game industry. A Way Out is going to surprise people with its innovative co-op gameplay and the way it tells an emotional story solely through these two characters.”
A Way Out Available Consoles
The game was initially unveiled during 2014 at The Game Awards event. Both the game’s title plus gameplay was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 during EA’s press conference. The game is set to be available on PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox One.
